Renewing your vehicle’s registration online is convenient and saves time. You won’t have to contend with long lines at the Department of Motor Vehicles or leave work early to complete the process before the office closes. Each DMV can customize the online registration renewal process to its liking, but most include the steps below.
Getting started
You will be supplying personal information during online registration, so make sure your computer has a secure internet connection. Find the “renew registration” or “vehicle registration” tab on your DMV’s Website.
Verify
It is vital that the information you provide is accurate and up to date. Take your time filling in the required fields. Double-check that your mailing address and vehicle stats such as your VIN number and license plate are correct before moving on to the next screen or step.
Payment options
Vehicle registration comes at a price. Check the payment options on the site — typically credit card or electronic check — and opt for the one that works best for you.
Delivery options
Even though you are completing the vehicle registration online, you will need a physical copy of your registration to keep in your glove box. Select a delivery option.
Proof of process
Once you complete the process, save a copy of the renewal to your computer or print out a copy of the receipt for your records.
